Wella Color / Custom Color

10/25/2016

Color is an art form and not every one is blessed to be able to master it.  I have finally been able to lift bundles to about a level 8 and then tone it red.  What a wonderful accomplishment.  Here is the formula:

  1. Lighten using Wella Professional Multi Blonde and 20 volume developer for approximately 40 minutes.  I achieved a level 8.
  2. I toned the hair using Wella Color Touch in color 6/45: Dark Blonde / Red Red Violet and 10 volume Developer

The result was a little to warm for me so I decided to tone it once again using:

  1. L' Oreal Excellence HiColor in Magenta with 20 volume Developer

I achieved a vibrant color and I am more than pleased with it.

I offer custom color for all my clients so please feel free to call or email when you are ready for some beautiful color.

Believe

I just left church and boy am I filled with renewed joy, hope and gratefulness.  Every once in a while we go through times in our life when everything just seems to be going wrong.

Two years ago I made a goal to finish my education by time I was 30 so I could begin to take care of my family in the way I always dreamed.

At the time my goal seemed a little out of reach because there was no room for error.  I had many setbacks but at the end of June I finally graduated from cosmetology school, and in July I became a licensed cosmetologist. September 19 I celebrated my 30th birthday having accomplished my goal, and that has brought unspeakable joy, and hope, and purpose, and gratefulness back into my life.

It is never to late to pursue your dreams, change your career, or alter your path.  You are the architect of your future.  Take your dreams and make them a reality.  Find your passion then hunt it down and make it come to life.

You are important!  You are special!  You have purpose!  You matter!  If you believe it you can do it!  Never stop!  Keep pushing!  You have what it takes!  You are a game changer! I win! You win!  We all win!  Winners <3

BELIEVE !!!

Move it, Shake it, Live it

Health is wealth.  Right?  I mean I'm no expert but that's what they tell me.  As a full figured woman I sometimes get annoyed by the judgmental stares of fit friends and strangers.  I truly believe that if there was less judgment out there regarding people's size more people would be motivated to choose a healthier path.

In an effort to lead a healthy lifestyle I eat a moderately healthy diet and I work out like a beast.  At the moment my current fitness obsession is Orange Theory Fitness.  If you have one in your area and you haven't tried s free class you are missing out.  I highly recommend it.  You can go from a couch potato to a power walker to a jogger in less than a month.  The program is for everyone , at any age, and any fitness level.

Today I encourage you to step out of your comfort zone, ignore any judgement you may come across and strive for a healthier you.  Not because society is pushing you to lose weight but because you want to live a long and healthy life.

MOVE IT, SHAKE IT, LIVE IT!!!

Acetona Nail Bar Review

9/8/2016

Yesterday I had the pleasure of visiting Acetona Nail Bar.  It is located in the heart of Little Havana, and has an amazing vibe.  As you walk in you are greeted by beautiful artwork, a friendly staff, and a modern industrial looking nail salon and blow out bar.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS
There was no wait at all, and everyone I met was very sweet.  Lucky for me I came in time for happy hour so I had a really nice mojito.

THE CONS
Of course no place is perfect so while overall I had a great experience there were a few things that weren't quite right.  The woman who did my manicure must have been quite inexperienced because she cut way more that just cuticle I'm pretty sure she was cutting live skin.  When she finished the owner ended up giving me a second manicure because clearly the first wasn't up to standard.  The second con would be the price.  I jumped at a chance to try this place based on the prices on the website.  Gel Manicure for $15.  It was too good to be true.  The new price is $30, but I did get a $10 discount for my inconvenience without even asking so that kinda helped.  Hopefully they update the website soon.

THE PROS
Enough of the cons.  On to the pros.  After attending beauty school you are obsessed with sanitation.  I was pleasantly surprised to see that their pedicure bowls did not have those cesspools of fungal infections which most of you would recognize as a spa bath with jets.  They had the bowls which are easily removed, easily cleaned, and easily sanitized.  Any place that is forward thinking enough to have this type of set up deserves repeat business because they have their clients best interests in mind.  Another pro would be the staff in general.  It's a family friendly environment.  Everyone is kind and makes you feel at home.  They have a wide selection of colors with no bootleg brands that you might find at the dollar store.

TO RECOMMEND OR NOT THAT IS THE QUESTION.
Overall I can see that the owner is a professional interested in the growth and development of her employees and takes excellent care of her clients.  I am excited to go back for a pedicure and I would recommend Acetona Nail Bar to anyone that is looking for an affordable manicure, pedicure, or blowout.

Relaxed VS Natural VS Other

8/11/2016

The great debate.  Can't we all just get along?  There are so many options out here when it comes to hair care and maintenance.  With all the different hair textures, levels of commitment, and massive opinions it all boils down to personal preference.

Relaxer aka creamy crack aka the holy grail of hair care in my opinion receives a bad rap based on inaccurate information from mostly kitchen beauticians and graduates of YouTube University.  I wore a relaxer for several years and the only reason I stopped is because I could not find a stylist who could relax my whole head without burning me.  When applied correctly a relaxer will not damage the hair, and best of all save you time.  The key is to find a licensed professional who knows what they are doing, stays up to date with the newest products and techniques, and genuinely cares about you and the health of your hair.

Now, I have been natural for about 4 years now and I love it, however, I still fall in to the other category because I use a straightening treatment on my hair similar to Keratin which I will review tomorrow.

I respect all my natural sisters.  It takes time and dedication to really embrace natural hair.  From growing out your relaxer to big chops, to the ordeal of wash day you all are truly winning life.  Now of course the natural hair care movement has been hyped through social media, and I believe that hype detracts from the beauty of natural hair.  Being natural is not a fad you grow out of or something that should be argued over.

All in all I have to say it is just hair.  We are all one big happy hair lovin' family.  Whether you choose to rock a fro or a wrap the important part is that you love it and it fits your lifestyle.  Just in case you were wondering I style every type of hair, and if you are in the Miami area I would love to be your stylist.

Have a blessed day beauties.

XOXO,
Tamara

Don't you love receiving packages?  Honestly, when I come home and I see FedEx, UPS or USPS I am excited because I know I get to unwrap a new bundle of joy.  Today I was pleasantly surprised to find my brand new flyers waiting for me.

I don't know where I am going to pass them out or who I am targeting, but I am one step closer to making that money honey.

SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!

Working Out & Hair Care

8/8/2016

Health is wealth.  Our body is a temple.  An apple a day...  Who hasn't heard of these sayings?  Taking care of your body is a special form of self love.  Through exercising and eating right you give yourself the upper hand in life.

A small but significant hindrance to exercising for some can be hair care.  Is it feasible for a woman with a sew in to wash their hair everyday?  What if you use tape extensions?  How about all the naturals who just pressed their hair?

For me I love tape extensions, but with working out 4 - 6 days a week it just wasn't working for me.  My holy grail extensions have been micro beads.  You attach individual extensions to the hair using a small bead and pliers.  You can wash your hair after every work out with out the worry that they might slip or develop a funny smell.

I encourage every man and woman reading this to become more active.  Take a walk around the neighborhood or at the park.  Exercising for 30 minutes to an hour 3-4 days per week classifies you as active.  Whether you are walking, running, lifing weights or playing basketball you are lappping everyone who is still on the couch right now.

Take a selfie of your workout and tag @truebeautymiami.  We can't wait to see every ones fit pics.

XOXO,
Tamara

Welcome

How exciting.  My first blog post.  Today I would like to take a moment to introduce myself.  My name is Tamara, but everyone calls me Tammy.  I was born in New York, and came to Miami when I was 5 years old.  I have the best mom in the world, and a little brother who isn't so little.  At 6 foot 2 inches I think he qualifies for hulk status.

I am of Jamaican descent, but I do not speak Patois.  I do however, enjoy cooking for my family, and dancing to reggae.

4 years ago I found my passion for hair and makeup.  1.5 years ago I decided to legitimize my passion by going to cosmetology school.  I am now a Beauty School graduate, and a licensed cosmetologist in the state of Florida.  What a blessing it is to finally be finished with this part of my journey.

I have always been fascinated by extensions, and the more I learn about this industry the more I fall in love with it.  I specialize in natural and affordable extension applications.  Whether you want a sew in, micro beads, tape ins, or a combination of different methods I'm your go to stylist.

I look forward to sharing my knowledge, and interacting with anyone who takes the time to engage with me.

Have a blessed day beauties.

XOXO,

Tamara
